Sustainability Statement
The Pactiv commitment to business performance is not just about delivering results, but delivering them
the right way.
In everything we do, from purchasing raw materials to delivering our finished products, we consider the
environmental impact of our products and processes. We use life cycle inventory studies to understand the
environmental footprint of our products and then work to minimize their environmental impact. Our
operations continuously seek new ways to reduce the energy consumed during manufacturing and to
reduce emissions and waste. Pactiv facilities have made significant progress in reducing the solid waste
going to landfills, while increasing materials that are recycled.
Our sustainable business practices include:
- Energy Reduction and Management: We are actively focused on the reduction of our energy footprint
internally and externally. Our site practices include energy efficient lighting, heating conservation, air
conditioning and ventilation efficiencies. Externally, Pactiv strives to produce and transport its products
with as minimal investment in energy usage as possible.
- Source Reduction and Management: We recognize the need to consume less valuable raw materials
yet continue to deliver high quality products that meet customer needs. Pactiv is committed to
exploring the use of alternative resources that can be used to provide highly functional and useful
products. Our efforts include reviewing product functionality versus design for such opportunities to
reduce material usage and to use recycled material, including post-consumer material, in our products
where appropriate.
- Waste Reduction and Management: We are committed to reducing the solid waste in our operations.
We are a leader in our commitment to recycling materials throughout production processes and in the
use of recycled materials in manufacturing. We recycle 90% of our plastic manufacturing process
scrap directly into our products and recycle aluminum, corrugated, scrap metals and remaining plastic
scrap through suppliers and recycling services.
Social Responsibility: Our commitment to social responsibility extends to our people and our
operations as well. Conscientious employee relations and rigorous attention to environmental, health
and safety performance is an important part of how we do business.
In keeping with our values, we actively adhere to and support workplace policies such as diversity and
inclusion and worker safety.
Respect for our workers and our workplace drives constant improvement in our injury reduction
performance. Many Pactiv sites have earned a “STAR” designation in the U.S. Occupational Safety
and Health Administration’s (OSHA) voluntary protection program and we work diligently to meet goals
of zero notices of violation, zero exceedances of permitted emissions, and zero releases of substances
in manufacturing.
Respect and care for the environment require action today while keeping an eye to the future. Pactiv
continues to seek opportunities in this area.
